Japan is renowned for many cultural and artistic attributes where pottery is certainly one of them. People travel from the USA and all over the world, to visit the areas in Japan where pottery is produced, just to get a glimpse of the traditional skills and craftsmanship still found in Japan today. The following tour itinerary concentrates on those areas and is a suggested itinerary if pottery and ceramics are your interest.


THE SUGGESTED ITINERARY

 

DAY Arrive Osaka and transfer to your Osaka Hotel OSAKA
DAY

Depart Osaka by JR train to Okayama. Inbe is home to Bizen pottery - visit the Bizen Pottery Museum and enjoy the vast range of galleries, shops and kilns.
OKAYAMA
DAY
Morning at leisure in Okayama. Train to Saga City in Kyushu. Saga prefecture is famous for its pottery towns. SAGA
DAY


Local train to Arita: This small town has ceramic decorated bridges, a shrine to potters and dozens of kilns.The Kyushu Ceramic Museum is a great stop that gives you the opportunity to see the regions ceramics. ARITA
DAY


Local train to Imari where Imari porcelain is produced in the kilns of Okawachi-yama (village close by). On to Karatsu for your final two nights in Japan. KARATSU
DAY Full Day in Karatsu town where Karatsu ware resembles Korean pottery and is much sought after for Tea Ceremony usage. KARATSU
DAY Train to Fukuoka for flight to US via Narita USA
