Japan is more than the old temples and shrines. There are many worldly recognized architects contributing Japan’s modern archtecture. This itinerary will give you a chance to glimpse such accomplishment of landmarks and buildings. You will see the country’s growth in urbanization as you view contemporary buildings and structures that Japan is well known to have. This exemplifies how the country is able to advance forward into the future with modernity while still preserving its enriched and beautiful culture from the past.


THE SUGGESTED ITINERARY

 

DAY Arrive in Tokyo. Stay tonight at Imperial Hotel located in the heart of Tokyo by Imperial Palace. TOKYO

Walk throughout IMPERIAL HOTEL. You will see Frank Lloyd Wright’s inspired rooms of the New Imperial, including the Peacock Room, which is a striking ballroom featuring decorative motifs from 1923. Tour the Myonichikan at Jiyu Gakuen School in Shinjuku, also designed by Wright in 1921. View the campus buildings that were inspired by Write and designed by Arat Endo.

In Shibuya, visit Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasia in the Sendagaya area of Tokyo. Stainless steel roofs on a flying saucer shape with Fine Elegance. Tange Kenzo, Japan’s foremost famous architect has built many of new landmark buildings in Japan, such as Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and Shizuoka Press and Broadcasting Offices in Ginza. In Ueno, Josiah Condor designed the Old Ueno Imperial Museum and Mitsubishi Building. In the evening, visit brand-new Roppongi Hills complex in Roppongi. TOKYO

Day trip to Yokohama. It’s about 40 minutes from Tokyo. Antonin Raymond built the Ehrismann Residence, Ferris University and Fujiya Building in Yokohama. High Stubbins built Landmark Tower. TOKYO

Take Odakyu Romance Car to go to Hakone. While enjoying the scenery of rural Japan, take a ropeway ride in Hakone National Park, with views of the Pacific Ocean and peaks of mountains including Mt. Fuji. Arrive at Fujiya Hotel in Hakone, which Frank Lloyd Wright built. HAKONE

Transfer to Kyoto via JR Bullet train. Enjoy the day in the old Imperial town of Kyoto. Visit Nijo Castle, built by the order of the first Shogun Tokugawa Iyeyasu, it is a star attraction in Kyoto, and Kiyomizu temple, which was built without a single nail! KYOTO
DAY Visit Miho Museum in Shigaraki. This museum in the forest was designed by I.M. Pei. KYOTO
DAY Visit Nara to see Todaiji Temple, Japan’s biggest temple built in 751. It took only 4 years to build by the order of Prince Shotoku. KYOTO
DAY Depart Osaka for USA USA
