New York, NY, June 9, 2011: The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and Japanese travel agencies delivered a charitable donation of $7,750 to Consulate General of Japan in New York. This is the money raised from the sales of the $780 special package for 4 nights in Tokyo and air, which was ended on May 31.
The 6 travel agencies who participated in this package campaign, had agreed to donate $50 per each sale of the $780 package for the post-quake Japan relief charity, and with 155 people who had purchased the package, the campaign succeeded in collecting $7,750 in total. Mr. Shuichi Kameyama, the Executive Director of JNTO New York Office, along with the travel agencies contributed to this campaign, delivered the money to the Consulate General of Japan in New York on June 9. Mr. Kameyama also added $110 from JNTO’s donation box. Since the recent setback in the US travelers to Japan remained as a major issue, there was a concern before the sale started that such a super value package might not become a promising boost in tourism. However, once the package deal was released, inquires poured, and the demands were so high that the agents couldn’t accommodate all requests from customers. “This special package reminded me of the high potential and popularity of tourism to Japan in the US market,” Mr. Kameyama of JNTO New York says. “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the participating organizations for their generous contribution. At the same time, we would like those who purchased this package to enjoy their time in Tokyo, and share the safety and cultural richness of Tokyo with their friends and families upon their return to the US.” |
